They might be finishing just their second season in the AFL, but the Greater Western Sydney Giants have shown they will not go down without a fight.  Under the guidance of veteran Kevin Sheedy, the new boys in town have pushed some of the powerhouse teams until they can go no further.

With GWS coming towards the end of its second season in the AFL, the hype that surrounds the young brigade in the side is no secret.  The likes of Jeremy Cameron, who has blossomed this year in the forward line, and Dylan Shiel are fast becoming the core of the Giants side. Cricket: The Ashes: when will the calamity end?

Carnage. Probably a very apt word to describe what went on during the second Ashes test at Lord’s.

The runs are not coming, the wickets are few and far between – and then along come England, the squad merrily making its way towards its third straight Ashes series victory.

It is, however, not over until the fat lady sings.  That fat lady could be singing as early as Manchester, the venue for the third test.

Southern University Games: La Trobe University Review

It was the wish of La Trobe University Sport Manager Rennie Cirillo to see the Southern University Games trophy hoisted high at the end of the competition by the team captains.  He conveyed his sentiments to the team managers on the first night of the games, telling them to give it their all.  The ultimate goal came to fruition, and the cup was raised by La Trobe team captains Larissa Payne and Geoff Holland at the closing ceremony. AFL: Brisbane Lions v Gold Coast Suns: Round 15 Preview

In March, not many people would have foreseen this game to be much entertainment.  The Gold Coast Suns, entering their third year in the competition, have now exceeded all expectations, and have taken the long handle to the likes of powerhouse teams Hawthorn and Essendon.  Against another struggling team in the Brisbane Lions, the Suns shape up as a real contender at the Gabba.
