In the biggest game of Eastern Football League action for the year, Norwood came out looking confident from the first bounce.

On a day where thousands from around the community, along with club supporters, media and players flocked to Bayswater Oval, the Wooders put on a spectacle, winning 14.16.100 to Balwyn’s 7.7.49.

After the traditional grand final pleasantries, including the presentation of the match ball, flown in by the Channel Nine News helicopter, Norwood took charge and never let up.

For the 24 hours prior to Saturday, March 15th, weather forecasts were very closely monitored.

It was a day of firsts for the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association to start the Grand Final weekend.  Not only were the patrons at the ground witness to a high quality game, but so were people at home or on mobile, courtesy of a live streaming service. State football has always been in the shadow of the AFL.  However, if you go and watch a TAC Cup or VFL game, you will see just how good the talent pool is at both levels.

I had the privilege last year of watching a combined 7 VFL & TAC Cup home and away games, plus both grand finals.  I was amazed at just how well the teams both moved the ball and how mature the players were in the TAC Cup.

Overview

It may only be the NAB Cup Grand Final, but much of the hype this week has not been about the game itself; but rather where the game will be played.

Brisbane Lions and Carlton face off on Friday at Etihad Stadium, but even an unbeaten campaign from the Lions (who should be the rightful hosts) stills them travel in the pre-season, despite furious protestations from Michael Voss over the location.

A stunning run of form from the Lions has showcased its next brigade of players to the AFL community.  The likes of young Aaron Cornelius, Patrick Karnezis and Elliot Yeo have stormed out of the blocks, while veterans and experienced players including Dayne Zorko, Jed Adcock and Daniel Merrett have really begun to hit the highs Lions fans saw at the end of last season. AFL: 2012 Grand Final Review: Sydney v Hawthorn

The 2012 AFL Grand Final will go down in history as yet another scintillating clash.  This time, the Sydney Swans defeated Hawthorn by 10 points in the dying minutes to clinch an emotional victory.

It is the Swans first premiership since 2005, denying the minor premiers the Hawks their shot at the flag. Continue reading AFL: 2012 Grand Final Review: Sydney v Hawthorn

AFL: Sydney v Hawthorn-it all comes down to this

Sydney v Hawthorn: this is the battle of the two best teams from season 2012.  The Hawks: the minor premiers, an incredible running team, and a powerful forward combination.  The Swans: battle-hardened and consistent.  Their squad has depth from one end to another.  And they’ve caused upsets in the past.
